Every life-destroying climate disaster is just another reason we need a GND

Hey John, it's Paul with Sunrise.

Last week, historic storms struck the Pittsburgh area, bringing down power lines and leaving nearly half the city without power. Even today, thousands of people are without power, and there’s another storm expected this week.

In the midst of all of this, greedy corporations are taking advantage of the situation to raise prices on critical goods and equipment that people need in the wake of these disasters.

We’re working with Congresswoman Summer Lee - one of our biggest Green New Deal champions in Congress - to call people affected by the storm and connect them with emergency relief resources.

Sign up to make calls tomorrow!

I don’t need to explain it to you - climate change is making storms like this increasingly destructive and deadly. How we respond as a society to disasters will make the difference between life and death for countless people.

We need well-funded government programs that can help respond to these disasters - but until we have those programs, it’s up to our communities. We need investments into resilience against climate disasters. And ultimately, we need to invest in renewable energy infrastructure (not fossil fuels!) so we can stop the climate crisis from worsening.

Congresswoman Lee is modeling the kind of leadership we need as we face down the climate crisis: providing critical resources and care when people need it, not just asking for votes every two years.

So, this is not just an opportunity to support people through an extremely challenging time, but also to have Summer Lee’s back as she takes on a really important kind of leadership.

Can you join me?

In Solidarity,

Paul
