Citizens for Ethics & Responsibility in Washington

John,

Americans care about ethical government—they just can’t always agree on what that means or how to get there.

At CREW, we believe the first step is informing people so that they can hold their leaders accountable. That’s why we investigate money in politics and corruption scandals and spend a lot of time talking to the press so that they understand the gravity of corruption and the cost for everyday Americans.

This week has been a great example of the impact of that work, because fighting for a better government doesn’t always mean filing lawsuits.

  • CREW President Noah Bookbinder spoke with the Associated Press about the new Trump-branded development in Qatar that will be developed by Qatari Diar, which is owned by the Qatari government. That seems to violate President Trump’s ethics pledge, and it brings the total to a staggering 20 Trump-branded foreign business developments in the works during his second term.
  • With the news that Marco Rubio was named interim national security advisor, in addition to his roles as secretary of state, acting administrator of USAID and acting archivist of the United States, our March analysis of the ethics problems at play was quoted in the New York Times.
  • We also spoke with the Philadelphia Inquirer about Senator McCormick’s purchases of up to $1.1 million in Bitcoin investments—as he sits on a committee tasked with regulating digital assets. It’s time to ban congressional stock and crypto trading now.
  • As the Trump Organization launched a new product line around a potential unconstitutional Trump third term, USA Today referenced our investigation into the shocking number of products added to the Trump store in the lead up to his inauguration.

When you support our work with a contribution, or spread the word about stories like these, you join the fight for a better, more ethical government.

Thank you!
