John,

First: North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs won re-election last November — a victory that was confirmed by not one but TWO separate recounts.

Then: Her failed GOP challenger, Judge Jefferson Griffin, and his extreme right-wing allies launched an effort to overturn his loss by trying to throw out tens of thousands of legally valid ballots.

Now: A Trump-appointed federal judge just rejected Republican efforts to steal the election and ordered the state board of elections to certify Justice Riggs’ victory — a huge win for voters in North Carolina.

Here’s Attorney General Eric Holder’s reaction to this breaking news:

“The district court’s ruling reaffirms the truth: Justice Allison Riggs won, and all legally cast ballots must be counted.

“For nearly six months, despite increasing bipartisan opposition, too many Republicans have tried to use the judiciary to sanction a dangerous, un-American effort to steal a free and fair election. Judge Griffin has embarrassed himself and the state of North Carolina enough by dragging out this process. He must end this charade by finally accepting the results and admitting defeat — right now. The will of North Carolinians must prevail.”

– Eric Holder, May 6, 2025

But Judge Griffin still hasn’t conceded. He could still appeal this ruling. And there’s every reason to believe MAGA Republicans will use this as a model to try to overturn future elections in other states.

While the far right keeps attempting to silence voters — from working to steal elections simply because they don’t like the results to denying fair representation through extreme gerrymandering — we’ll keep fighting back for our democracy. As The New York Times put it, “If Judge Myers’s ruling stands, it will bring closure to an election purgatory that has lasted nearly six months. But election experts warn that the extraordinary series of challenges from Judge Griffin, as well as an openness from the courts to entertain the lawsuits, has already created a blueprint for future efforts to overturn elections.”

It’s clear: We have to be ready for right-wing extremists to continue trying to violate the sanctity of our elections.

With your support, we will keep fighting for free and fair elections in North Carolina and around the country — please rush a donation right now to help make sure the will of the people prevails: [[link removed]]
