Folks, it’s past time to rightsize Washington. Thankfully, President Trump and OMB Director Russ Vought have provided Congress with a winning blueprint to do just that.

On Friday, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released President Trump’s transformational Fiscal Year 2026 budget proposal. This fiscal roadmap, which marks a significant paradigm shift, will serve as a guiding light for the FY26 appropriations process.

President Trump’s budget restores pre-COVID spending, realigns our spending priorities, maintains strong funding for national defense, and slashes woke, weaponized, and wasteful federal bureaucracy. Overall, the Trump Administration’s budget request offers a bold and refreshing change to break Washington’s out-of-control spending habits.

It’s no secret that our fiscal house is in dire need of discipline. Government spending ballooned under Joe Biden’s failed leadership in order to fund the Left’s woke priorities and expand wasteful programs. With our national debt quickly approaching $37 trillion, it’s imperative that we accomplish the mission of restoring fiscal sanity — which is exactly what President Trump’s FY26 budget sets out to do.

Here are some of the key priorities in President Trump’s budget request:

✂️ Cut non-defense spending by $163 billion (22.6% reduction)

❌ Eliminate funding for woke and weaponized programs

🪖 Rebuild our nation’s military with a 13% funding increase

🔒 Bolster the Department of Homeland Security with the resources needed to keep our borders secure and carry out mass deportations

⚡ Unleash American energy production and eliminate funding for the Green New Scam

🎖️ Support our nation’s veterans by increasing funding for healthcare services

❤️‍🩹 Make America Healthy Again by providing the Department of Health and Human Services with resources to tackle issues related to nutrition, physical activity, and over-reliance on medication

💲 Preserve Social Security benefits and improve customer service

📚 Streamline K-12 education funding focusing on the states and promote parental choice

🌏 Realign foreign aid by ensuring this funding is efficient and consistent with U.S. foreign policy under our America First agenda

As expected, the Swamp is already fighting back. After all, many politicians on both sides of the aisle are addicted to spending. Yet my conservative colleagues and I will support President Trump’s budget every step of the way in order to deliver historic fiscal change to the American people.

Part of this fight includes calling out lies being told about President Trump’s budget — even by Republicans here in Congress. For example, several establishment Republicans are claiming the Trump Administration’s budget request doesn’t do enough for our military. This is 100% false. In reality, the President is requesting a 13% increase in defense spending.

As a conservative member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will ensure President Trump’s America First priorities — which I share and fully support — are reflected in each of the twelve FY26 appropriations bills. We’re starting this important work this week by kicking off appropriations hearings, and I look forward to keeping you updated as this process moves forward.

Paired with our joint efforts to rescind other wasteful spending and our forthcoming budget reconciliation bill, President Trump’s budget is poised to deliver meaningful change to Washington, restore fiscal sanity, and provide prosperity to the American people.

Folks, I have an exciting legislative update! Last Wednesday, my Congressional Review Act (CRA) joint resolution of disapproval, H.J.Res. 42, passed the Senate by a vote of 52-46. This legislation, which passed the House with bipartisan support in March, rescinds the Biden-Harris Administration’s final rule that amended or created new requirements for 20 different home appliance type products, including dishwashers, central AC and heat pumps, clothes washers, and more. 

I applaud the Senate for passing my commonsense resolution to reverse Biden’s DOE energy efficiency standards that place needless red tape on manufacturers, limit consumer choice, and increase prices for hardworking Americans. Both consumers and manufacturers are sick and tired of Washington bureaucrats raising costs and stifling innovation through unnecessary mandates. Thankfully, Congress is taking critical steps to repeal harmful regulations that the Biden-Harris Administration forced on our country. I look forward to H.J.Res. 42 arriving on President Trump’s desk for his signature so we can overturn yet another burdensome Biden-era rule for the American people.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Timothy Helton, a Gainesville native, recently received the Purple Heart for wounds he sustained in 2010 while deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Marines during Operation Enduring Freedom. As you may know, the Purple Heart is America’s oldest military award. It was first created by General George Washington in 1782 as a Badge of Military Merit to recognize heroic acts by his troops. The honor now recognizes service members who have been wounded or killed in action.

Timothy Helton, now stationed at the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command in Beaufort, South Carolina, works as a hospital corpsman and has served in the U.S. Navy for 17 years. Please join me in thanking Helton for his almost two decades of selfless service in defense of our great nation, as well as congratulating him for this well-deserved and distinguished honor.

This week, the House will consider the following pieces of legislation:

• H.R. 276, the Gulf of America Act: This legislation codifies President Trump’s executive order to rename the “Gulf of Mexico” as the “Gulf of America,” and directs federal agencies to update all documents and maps to incorporate the new name.
• H.R. 881, the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act: This legislation prevents Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funds from flowing to American universities that host a Confucius Institute or maintain a relationship with a Chinese entity of concern.
