Not only is President Trump issuing executive orders that violate the Constitution in order to execute his far-right agenda, he’s also eroding our system of checks and balances and engaging in political retribution against his enemies. It’s a full-frontal assault on our democracy.
One example is his attacks on law firms that were involved in any lawsuits against him, his administration, or his allies during and after his first term in office.
During his first 100 days, the President issued an executive order punishing these companies and their lawyers by labeling them as national security risks and blacklisting them, unless they made a deal with him.
While some firms have resisted and fought back, several of the nation’s largest law firms capitulated to Trump, agreeing to provide almost $1 BILLION in pro-bono legal services to causes the Trump administration agrees with.
Caving to these unreasonable, unprecedented, and unconstitutional demands will only embolden Trump further and create a chilling effect among legal professionals seeking to fairly and justly represent their clients.
In response, Rob joined other Democratic attorneys general in writing an open letter to the legal community expressing support for the firms fighting back, and urging those who bent the knee to change course and walk away from their deals with Trump.
