The Minnesota Department of Revenue is sending a welcome letter [ [link removed] ] to taxpayers who chose advance payments of their Child Tax Credit. The letter includes information about how to change or stop payments, repayment situations, and more.

If I have a Power of Attorney for my client, will I get the welcome letter?

Yes, you will get the letter if the Power of Attorney form indicates you should receive all mail except refunds in the Additional Powers section.

Can my client change or stop advance payments?

If your client claimed the Child Tax Credit on their income tax return and chose to receive advance payments of the following year's Child Tax Credit, they can use e-Services to: 


* Update their mailing address
* Change from direct deposit to a paper check
* Stop advance payments for the year

To make changes, they must set up an e-Services account, then request access to their personal tax accounts. We recommend they set up an account immediately, so they can make changes if they need to. They will receive additional information about setting up an e-Services account with their welcome letter.

They can also cancel direct deposit or their advance payments by contacting us at 651-296-3781, 800-652-9094 or by emailing [email protected].
