John,
Today, on both National Nurses Day and National Teachers Day, we’re taking a moment of gratitude to recognize two of the most essential — and too often underappreciated — groups in our communities: nurses and educators.
Every day, teachers and nurses show up to keep our families safe and healthy and to help our kids grow. They are frontline protectors of our well-being and futures, and we’re so thankful for their service to our communities.
It’s no surprise that many of the pro-choice champions we endorse started in roles like these:
-
Erin Byrnes, now a leader for reproductive freedom in the Michigan House of Representatives, was previously a special education teacher in New York’s public school system.
-
Jalen McKee-Rodriguez was a high school math teacher before becoming the first openly gay man to be elected to the San Antonio, Texas City Council, where he just won reelection—by a big margin!
- In addition to serving on the Oakland Board of Education in California, Rachel Latta is a nurse midwife at a community clinic that provides vital reproductive healthcare.
These are leaders who know what it means to care — and who know what it takes to make real change from the ground up.
As MAGA extremists continue to meddle in our educational curriculums and healthcare systems, it’s more important than ever that we elect officials who will support our educators, healthcare providers, and others who keep our communities safe.
So today, we say thank you, and we recommit to electing leaders who fight for those who take care of all of us.
In gratitude,
Maris Nyhart
