Tens of thousands of dolphins, porpoises and whales are dying every year in European waters due to being bycaught in fishing gear – and some populations are coming perilously close to extinction. Released today (6 May), new EIA report Catch of the Day – The deadly impacts of cetacean bycatch in European waters reveals where bycatch thresholds have been exceeded, identifies 15 populations known to be impacted by bycatch and makes key recommendations to European governments to tackle the issue.
