Dignity in Dying

Hello
My name’s Anita Brown, I’m 49 years old and on 1st April 2016 I was diagnosed with incurable bladder cancer.
I was told that without chemotherapy, I would have two months to live. So far I’ve been lucky - my treatments have been mostly successful, my scans mostly clear. But I live with the knowledge that, eventually, my luck will run out. And then, ultimately, so will my choices.
I had long been a supporter of the campaign, so when I was diagnosed I knew that I wasn’t alone in my fight for choice. Because for so long so many people in my position have been asking the same question: If we might die a horrible, painful death, why don’t we have the right to choose when and how it happens? For our sake and for our families the law must change.
Dignity in Dying does so much to help me campaign for the change I want to see. It is only with the generosity and commitment of their wonderful membership that the campaign can support people like me to tell our stories and effect change. Together we can make our voices heard.

As a home carer, I know what dying from cancer can be like. My fear isn’t based in an unknown idea of pain but in suffering I’ve seen first hand. But it’s not just my pain - I don’t want my family to have to live with their last memories of me being in agony. That’s not who I am. And I don’t want to be remembered like that.
By joining Dignity in Dying we can do everything possible to bring about real choice at the end of life. For £2 a month you can be a part of this movement for change.
