Legislative Update

________________________________________________________________________

Friends,

As we get closer to the end of the legislative session and with the May 19th deadline around the corner, I’ve been hearing from many of you about the bills that might make it into the final omnibus legislation. I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out and share your thoughts. Below, I want to address some of your concerns and keep you updated as we wrap things up.

*Addressing the Homeschool Question*

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve heard from many folks back home who are rightly concerned about proposals that could place new mandates or restrictions on homeschooling in Minnesota. Let me be clear: I strongly oppose any effort to burden homeschool families with unnecessary oversight or bureaucratic red tape.

One proposal in particular, coming from the Senate, would have added new reporting requirements for homeschoolers. That is not the direction we should be heading. I want you to know that there is no support for this idea among House Republicans, and as long as I’m representing you, I will keep standing up for parental rights and protecting the freedom to educate our kids without government interference.

*Protecting Parental Choice on Vaccinations*

In addition to homeschooling concerns, many of you have reached out about potential efforts to mandate vaccinations for children. I firmly believe that decisions about your child’s health should be made by you, not the government. Parents have the right to decide what vaccinations their children receive, and I will stand firm in protecting that right.

As we move into the final stretch of session, I will continue to push back on any legislation that seeks to undermine parental authority. Your voice matters, and I’m grateful to everyone who has taken the time to reach out. Keep it coming.

*Standing Firm: No New Taxes*

I’ve said it from the start: Minnesotans are already taxed enough. With a massive budget surplus last biennium, there is no excuse for raising taxes. Yet, we continue to see proposals from the DFL that would grow government on the backs of hardworking families, farmers, and small business owners.

I will not support any tax increases. Period. Our state government needs to live within its means, just like every Minnesota household does. Instead of taxing more, we should focus on reprioritizing existing funds and cracking down on fraud to ensure that the money already allocated actually reaches the people and services it was meant to help. We need to make government more efficient, not more expensive. I’ll keep fighting for fiscal responsibility and pushing back against tax hikes every step of the way.

*Honoring the National Day of Prayer*

On May 1, the Minnesota House of Representatives formally recognized the National Day of Prayer with a resolution introduced by Rep. Mueller. This day serves as an opportunity for Minnesotans to reflect on the power of prayer and the importance of faith in our lives and communities.

The resolution highlights the long-standing tradition of this national observance, which dates all the way back to the Continental Congress in 1775. Now in its 74th consecutive year, the National Day of Prayer continues to bring Americans together to lift up our communities, our leaders, and our nation.

It was an honor to support this resolution and attend a local service in recognition of the day. Especially in these challenging times, it’s important that we take time to seek wisdom and direction. Not just for ourselves, but for our families, communities, and our state.

*Transportation That Makes Sense*

Last week, the House passed a bipartisan transportation bill that takes a smarter approach to how we invest in infrastructure. It steers funding away from costly, mismanaged transit projects like the Blue Line extension and instead puts $99 million into ready-to-go road and bridge improvements that benefit Minnesotans across the state. It also ensures electric vehicles contribute their fair share to road upkeep and includes common sense safety provisions like pedestrian upgrades and anti-DWI measures.

Importantly, the bill also delays unnecessary greenhouse gas mandates on certain highway projects until at least 2028. This gives our communities and MnDOT time to focus on real transportation needs rather than political agendas.

This is a practical, taxpayer-friendly bill that supports rural communities, job creators, and everyone who depends on our roads to get where they need to go.

*Let’s Continue Our Work Together*

As we approach the final days of this session, it's important to remember that the work we do here in St. Paul only matters when it reflects the priorities and values of the people we represent. I’m committed to listening, collaborating, and finding solutions that make a difference back home.

Please continue reaching out. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our communities and move Minnesota forward.

"Representative Bryan Lawrence"

"House District 27B"
