Did you know May is Mental Health Awareness Month?

Special Olympics believes that a truly healthy athlete is strong in both body and mind. That’s why our Strong Minds program focuses on emotional wellness, teaching athletes how to handle stress, build resilience, and stay mentally strong.

Staying mentally strong doesn't mean you never feel stress or anxiety—it means you have tools to help you manage those feelings in healthy ways.

See how some Special Olympics athletes are boosting their mental strength by putting their emotional well-being first:

GOING PADDLE BOARDING ON A CALM DAY - Devon A., WA

GETTING A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP - David R., NY

TREATING MYSELF TO A FUN DAY OUT - Kaitlin D., VA

MAKING SURE I EXERCISE AFTER A HARD DAY - Evan H., GA

Sometimes, stress sneaks up on us—and that’s when it helps to pause and take a few deep breaths. It helps calm your body and clear your mind. Try it for yourself:

Breathe in for 3 seconds

Hold for 3 seconds

Breathe out for 3 seconds
