It was a productive week on the House floor as we voted on several key measures to rein in federal overreach. I also had great meetings with the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, the Florida Electric Cooperative, Winter Haven City Commission and Polk County Commissioners to discuss key issues affecting our district, including rural infrastructure, electric grid resilience and local water projects.

California should not be setting national policy, yet recent EPA waivers have allowed the state to impose aggressive vehicle and truck emissions mandates that have nationwide consequences. The Biden Administration granted California authority to phase out gas-powered vehicles, impose costly compliance burdens on truck manufacturers and increase transportation expenses. These mandates threaten Florida families, small businesses and truckers who rely on affordable, reliable transportation.

To ensure Florida's drivers and truckers are not impacted by extreme regulations set by another state, I voted to block these overreaching rules. H.J. Res. 88 prevents California from requiring nearly all new passenger vehicles be electric by 2035, H.J. Res. 87 overturns stricter emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks and H.J. Res. 89 disapproves new nitrogen oxide engine standards that would raise manufacturing costs and reduce vehicle options.

AI and deepfake technology are increasingly being used to exploit children online, enabling predators to create or share sexually explicit images that can haunt victims for years. These images are difficult to remove, and families are often left without a clear path to protect their children. That’s why I voted for the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which passed the House with broad bipartisan support and is now headed to the President’s desk. This bill gives minors and their families a process to request the quick removal of explicit or AI-generated content.

Specifically, this measure creates a national reporting system where minors or their parents can anonymously request the removal of explicit or AI-generated content. Using a secure code, they can notify participating websites, which are then required to promptly remove the flagged content. This legislation provides real tools to protect their privacy and holds tech platforms accountable in the digital age. Click here to learn more.

Last week, I was privileged to welcome familiar faces from Polk County’s Flight to Honor to Washington. These heroes traveled to our nation’s capital to visit the memorials that stand as lasting tributes to their service and sacrifice. As a 26-year Naval Aviator, I’m always moved to see fellow veterans reflect at these sacred sites. It was a pleasure to spend time with them, express my gratitude in person and reaffirm my gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
