Trump wants to co-opt the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army so he can have a big military parade for his birthday.
Yes, I know. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
But a big parade isn’t a bad thing. A lot of Americans really deserved them.
People like the Apollo 11 astronauts, after they landed on the moon:
Or the heroes who liberated Paris from the Nazis in 1944:
Or the victorious Americans coming home after Operation Desert Storm:
Look, I’m not opposed to a parade. What I am absolutely, completely opposed to is somebody like Donald Trump making the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army about him. I do not support giving that guy a birthday parade while he destroys the democratic institutions that generations of Americans fought and died for, and works to slash the care and benefits veterans receive through the VA.
You’ve got to earn that kind of honor, and Trump has not.
I served our country for 25 years. I deployed all over the world, flew 39 combat missions, and made more than 375 successful carrier landings. And I mean this: If there is anything I can do to prevent Donald Trump from making a mockery of the finest fighting men and women on the face of the earth, I’m going to do it.
If you’re with me, please: Chip in and help me continue fighting back against Trump as he attacks our democracy. I need a big team with me, and I wouldn’t ask if this was not important.
