The Week Ahead

The U.S. House of Representatives is back for another week of legislative activity and votes. This morning, I participated in a House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Hearing on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of federal rail assistance. I also attended a joint subcommittee hearing between the House Agriculture Committee and the House Financial Services Committee on the future of digital assets. As digital assets continue to expand, Congress has a duty to give the market regulatory clarity that protects consumers and fosters innovation.

Later this week, the House will also consider legislation to officially rename the Gulf of America. For years, American tax dollars have been used to protect and secure the waterways of the Gulf. House Republicans will take historic action to codify President Trump’s decision to honor the investment of U.S. taxpayers in the Gulf of America and ensure our federal agencies reflect that change. The House will also consider legislation to remove Chinese propaganda from America’s college campuses. Too often, “cultural and educational centers” funded by the Chinese government have infiltrated our universities and pushed CCP propaganda onto the next generation of Americans. This bill ensures American taxpayer dollars are not forced to fund Chinese ideology through the CCP’s Confucius Institutes.

Advancing President Trump's Legislative Agenda

Last week, I voted to advance the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s budget reconciliation proposal, which delivers historic investments in national security, modernizes our air traffic control system, and reins in wasteful federal spending. Kansans in the Big First District sent me to Washington, D.C. to help President Trump reduce waste, fraud, and abuse, make America safe again, and protect our way of life in rural America.

Our reconciliation proposal empowers the U.S. Coast Guard to slow human and drug trafficking across our waters, invests over $12 billion in air traffic control modernization, eliminates Biden-era Green New Deal pet projects, and reduces the federal deficit by nearly $10 billion. I was proud to support these investments that advance President Trump’s America First agenda and move us closer to delivering the one big, beautiful bill American families deserve.

Advancing Reconciliation

Celebrating National Small Business Week

The Big First District of Kansas is home to more than 20,000 small businesses that employ over 80 percent of working adults in my district. These businesses are the backbones of our economy. Their stories, defined by sacrifice, hard work, and determination, serve as a reminder of what the American dream is all about—that anyone, from anywhere, can come to the U.S. the right way, work hard, make an honest living, and succeed. That’s what it’s all about.

The sacrifices of these families and businesses are why I feel so strongly about making the 2017 tax cuts permanent. If we fail to extend them, small businesses will see their tax rates nearly double, harming local economies and Main Street. During this National Small Business Week, we thank the hardworking men and women who make up the more than 33 million small businesses across our great nation, employing nearly 62 million Americans and equipping them to feed their families, put a roof over their heads, and put clothes on their backs. I look to passing pro-growth policies that support them in their pursuit of fulfilling their American dreams.

Rolling Back Far-Left Environmental Regulations

Last week, I voted to overturn five Biden-era regulations that would have imposed Green New Deal-style mandates on American families, farmers, and small businesses. These rules—including California’s ban on gas-powered vehicles and its electric vehicle mandate—would have devastated rural communities and raised costs across the country.

America needs an all-of-the-above energy strategy, not a one-size-fits-California mandate. I was proud to support House Republicans’ Congressional Review Acts to roll back these burdensome regulations and ensure far-left state governments don’t dictate energy policy for Kansas or the rest of the country.

Overturning Green New Deal Mandates

Applauding President Trump's Wins Through 100 Days

The only way to describe the first 100 days of President Trump's historic second term is promises made, promises kept. In just 100 days, President Trump has decreased apprehensions at our southern border by 95%, ushered in more than $5 trillion in new investments in America, signed the Laken Riley Act and the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act into law, and worked relentlessly with Congress to extend his 2017 tax cuts.

The President is working hard on behalf of American families, and the winning has just begun. I look forward to many, many more wins to follow.

Expanding Regional Airports

Rural communities like those in the Big First District depend on regional airports to connect them with the rest of the world. Last week, I introduced the Expanding Regional Airports Act to strengthen the reliability regional airports offer their communities, drive rural economic growth, and equip these airports with the resources they need to maintain the livelihoods of small communities and surrounding areas. By providing regional airports with more funding to lengthen runways, improve facilities, and construct new hangars, these airports can connect more rural Americans and spur local economies across our nation. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to advance our bill and give our regional airports the resources they deserve.

Smashing Job Expectations

Last month, the U.S. added 177,000 jobs to the labor market. April proved to be yet another strong month of job creation under President Trump’s leadership, smashing expectations for the second month in a row. This is what winning looks like.

On Inauguration Day, President Trump promised to usher in the golden age of America, and he’s doing just that. Our Republican majorities in the House and the Senate will continue to work tirelessly to bring good-paying jobs and businesses to America, lower taxes, and help President Trump bring in this new era of American greatness. Promises made, promises kept.

Serving The Big First

As summer approaches, many Kansas families are making travel plans, preparing for time with loved ones, or seeking assistance with federal services, and my office is here to help every step of the way. Whether you're interested in booking a tour of the U.S. Capitol, White House, or Library of Congress, need assistance with passports or a federal agency, or want to request an American flag flown over the Capitol, we’ve got resources available.

We’re also proud to assist Kansas veterans with accessing benefits and resolving issues with the VA. You can find helpful information and request services anytime at mann.house.gov, or feel free to call one of my offices in Washington, Manhattan, or Dodge City. My team and I are here to serve you.

Meetings in the District

Cargill

Agriculture is the heartbeat of the Big First District, and Cargill plays a key role in supporting farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers in Kansas. I met with leaders from Cargill to talk about workforce challenges facing the agriculture industry and how federal policies can better support producers and rural communities. It’s important to ensure that agribusinesses like Cargill can continue to create jobs and support Kansas as a leader in feeding, fueling, and clothing the world. Thanks for the meeting!

National Community Pharmacists Association

Community pharmacies play a vital role in keeping families healthy, especially in rural areas where access to care can be limited. I met with the National Community Pharmacists Association to discuss the urgent need for pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform and greater transparency. Too many local pharmacies are being forced to close their doors due to unfair reimbursement practices, and it’s time for Congress to act. We must protect community pharmacies and ensure Kansans can get the care and prescriptions they need close to home. Thanks for sitting down with me!

Land O' Lakes

I met with Land O’Lakes to discuss a range of issues important to Kansas agriculture, including tax policy, workforce shortages, research, and the upcoming Farm Bill. We talked about the need to make the 199A small business deduction permanent, support ag research through key USDA programs, and pursue visa reforms to help address labor shortages in the ag industry. As Congress works toward a five-year, comprehensive Farm Bill, I’ll continue advocating for policies that strengthen rural America and help Kansas producers feed, fuel, and clothe the world.

Fort Hays State University

Last week, I met with Fort Hays State University leadership to discuss some of their developments on campus. It was great to hear about their efforts to modernize the University Farm—an initiative that will give students practical skills they can apply directly on local farms and in ag-related industries, and their new affiliations with Northwest Tech and North Central Kansas Tech. These affiliations will strengthen partnerships across the region and help keep higher education affordable while preparing students for high-demand careers. Thanks for stopping by!

Kansas Association of Insurance Agents

Independent insurance agents are a key part of protecting family farms and businesses across Kansas. I met with the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents to talk about tax policy, disaster preparedness, and the importance of strengthening the Federal Crop Insurance Program. We also discussed common-sense legislation that would strengthen pre-disaster mitigation efforts and ensure fairness in tax treatment for recovery and litigation. I appreciate the work Kansas insurance agents do to support our families, farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. Thanks for meeting with me!

Washburn University

Washburn University provides students with a high-quality education and real-world opportunities. I met with John Pinegar, a Washburn representative, to hear an update on the exciting developments happening on campus, including efforts to expand academic programs, strengthen workforce partnerships, and create new opportunities for students. It’s great to see Washburn investing in the future of Kansas and preparing students to succeed in life after college. Thanks for all you do to invest in the next generation of leaders!

Kansas State Government Relations Interns

As a student at K-State, I had leadership opportunities that opened doors I never knew existed and developed skills that I have carried with me throughout my lifetime. I met with students from Kansas State University’s Government Relations Internship Program while they were visiting Washington, D.C. We talked about their experiences working in the public sector and the importance of staying engaged in the legislative process. It’s encouraging to see young Kansans learning firsthand how government works and preparing to make a difference in their communities and beyond. Keep up the great work and go Wildcats!

Kansas Electric Cooperatives

Electric cooperatives power homes, businesses, and farms across rural Kansas. Kansas Electric Cooperatives (KEC) services 26 different electric cooperatives across Kansas, ensuring Kansans have access to reliable, affordable electricity. I met with KEC to discuss permitting reform, wildfire prevention, disaster recovery, and continued investment in infrastructure.

We also talked about the importance of pursuing an all-of-the-above energy strategy, preserving tax incentives that level the playing field for utility providers, and advancing smart, pro-growth policies that strengthen rural communities. Co-ops are critical to rural America, and we need federal policies that empower them, not stifle them. Thanks for meeting with me!

Growth Energy

Biofuels play a critical role in American energy dominance and maintaining the livelihoods of Kansas farmers. Growth Energy is a leading voice for biofuel producers and supporters across Kansas and the nation. We discussed my bill, Farmers First Fuel Incentives Act, which would ensure that 45Z tax credits benefit American producers, not foreign competitors. We also expressed our support for the Trump Administration’s announcement that E15 will now be available nationwide throughout the summer—a win for American families, ethanol producers, and rural communities across the country.

Thank you, Growth Energy, for all you do to support Kansas farmers and consumers!

Salina Regional Health Center

Hospitals and health care providers across Kansas are essential to keeping rural communities strong and healthy. I met with leaders from Salina Regional Health Center to talk about policies that will ensure Kansans have access to high-quality, affordable health care. Thank you, Salina Regional Health Center, for all you do to support Salina and the surrounding region.

Lawrence Chamber of Commerce

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is a leading voice in recruiting and expanding business and opportunity in the Lawrence community. We discussed key projects the Chamber is working on, including the expansion of Lawrence Regional Airport, which will strengthen medical LifeFlight operations, boost regional transportation, and support KU Athletics as the university grows. Small businesses are a lifeline to the communities they serve, and I’m grateful for Chambers like Lawrence that give those businesses a strong voice.

National Electrical Contractors Association

I met with the National Electrical Contractors Association to talk about tax, energy, and infrastructure policies that impact electrical contractors and the communities they serve. We discussed the importance of preserving pro-growth tax provisions, strengthening the energy grid, and streamlining the permitting process to keep critical projects on track. Investing in energy and infrastructure is vital to supporting jobs, economic growth, and long-term reliability across the Big First and the region. Thanks for stopping by!

American Clean Power Association

I met with American Clean Power to discuss tax provisions that impact clean energy development and domestic manufacturing. We talked about how credits like 45X, 45Y, and 48E can help drive innovation, reduce costs, and expand U.S. energy production. America needs an all-of-the-above energy strategy that strengthens American energy dominance, promotes reliability and affordability, and utilizes the energy supply in our own backyard. Thanks for meeting with me during your visit!

Kansas Aqueduct Coalition

Water is one of the most important issues for the future of Kansas agriculture and rural communities. I met with the Kansas Aqueduct Coalition to discuss the water challenges facing Western Kansas and the Ogallala Aquifer Study that I secured in the 2024 Water Resources Development Act. I’m grateful for the partnership of groups like Kansas Aqueduct, which are helping ensure that we have strong federal policy that actually addresses challenges facing our state. Thanks for meeting with me!
