Do you believe every American has a right to Social Security benefits?

John --

When it comes to Social Security, it's a lifeline for women and minorities. But social forces like financial resources, health, and lower pay tend to contribute to lower retirement, disability, and survivor benefits.

According to AARP, nearly 24 percent of women 65 and older receive 90 percent of their income from Social Security. Almost 50 percent of African American beneficiaries rely on Social Security for 90 percent or more of their retirement income. And women also tend to receive reduced benefit payments due to lower pay, time out of the workforce and the higher probability they will longer.

That's why Congressman Evans is working to level the playing field and bolster everyday Americans, including women and minorities. Do you agree that every American has a right to Social Security benefits?

The same social forces and structural inequalities that disadvantage women and minorities from day one continue to negatively impact their ability to access the number one insurance and anti-poverty program our country has to offer.

Social Security is a right -- and it's a promise people have paid into to secure their future, and an economic foundation many need to survive.
