It's Public Service Recognition Week! This week has been celebrated the first week of May since 1985 to honor the people who serve our nation as federal, state, county, local and tribal government employees.
To all the federal employees, Maryland state employees, transit operators, teachers, and public sector workers who serve our communities every day, we appreciate you! The DC region and the country are stronger because of your service. Thank you.

Rally this morning: Don't cut our wages! Don't repeal or pause I-82!

While unveiling her budget proposal yesterday, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that she wants to repeal Initiative 82, the DC law phasing out the tipped minimum wage.
This morning at 8:30 AM, restaurant workers with UNITE HERE Local 25 and allies will rally to say: "Don't use the budget to undo the will of voters and roll back wages."

For the next five weeks, AFL-CIO's affiliate unions will stand firm with AFGE and other federal union members to reclaim our power. After a powerful 6 days on the line, ATU Local 689 members at Martz Gold Line won their strike! On Tuesday last week, 689 and Martz met and reached a tentative agreement. Members ratified the agreement later that week. Major components include a cost of living agreement clause for years two and three of the contract along with substantial raises every year. Congratulations to ATU Local 689 and its members at Martz!

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee's Union Jobs & Career Fair will take place on Saturday May 10 at the Dulles Expo Center. Come learn about the benefits of apprenticeships, which combine on-the-job training with classroom instruction. and find which trade best suits you or your child. Details.

On Thursday of last week, hundreds of union members and allies rallied for May Day. Many members of the Council's Affiliate unions spoke at the rally, and called for the solidarity and worker power we need in this moment.
