As a Dad, I have been worried about the effect that social media is having on our kids for a long time. 
 
I am delighted that National MP for Tukituki Catherine Wedd has shown initiative and drafted a member’s bill, which will keep our kids safer online by restricting access to social media for under 16s. 
 
This Bill is about protecting children from bullying, addiction and exposure to inappropriate content, and builds on our successful ban of cell phones in classrooms – a move that principals and teachers tell us has been transformational.
 
Our kids deserve to grow up in a safe environment, both offline and online. It’s time we put stronger protections in place to keep them safe from harm.
