Donald Trump said yesterday that he wants to turn Alcatraz back into a federal prison.

Let’s cut the BS: This would be a massive waste of money that doesn’t help any of us. It’s not what Californians want.

Let’s be clear about what Trump was trying to do this weekend: distract us.

He knows he is losing support because of his illegal deportations and disregard of due process. He sees that Americans are fed up with his chaotic tariff back and forth.

Getting derailed by Trump’s clearly unserious Alcatraz proposal is exactly what he wants. We won’t give it to him.

California’s next governor needs the backbone to call out Trump and fight back—whether that’s when he wants to turn a tourist attraction into a prison, or when he withholds federal disaster aid. Californians deserve better.
