Dear friends and neighbors,
I hope you had the opportunity to make memories over the gorgeous weekend as summer is at the doorstep! Meanwhile, at the MN Capitol, there is approximately two weeks remaining before the required adjournment date of May 19. Over the last several weeks we’ve passed a handful of omnibus bills off the Senate Floor to be negotiated with the House. But, there are still several omnibus funding bills that have yet to pass and time is quickly running out.

Democrats try to Force Minnesotans to Take Vaccines
|
Background: Current state law allows Minnesotans the right for a parent or guardian to exempt their child from vaccines and immunizations on the basis of conscience. This has been a law for decades, and Democrats are stopping at nothing to repeal it. A recently introduced Senate bill, SF 3439, would repeal this right to exempt children from immunizations.
Why it Matters: I am firmly committed to medical freedom and parental authority and 100% opposed to forced vaccinations. I respect and support those who choose to vaccinate themselves and their children, but I also respect those that choose, for whatever reason, not to be vaccinated. The recently introduced legislation encroaches on parental rights and medical freedom.
Next Steps: The bill is currently waiting action in the Senate Human Services Committee. I have received a boatload of feedback from across our community bill urging me to oppose the legislation. I will oppose any vaccination-by-government-coercion legislation and continue to stand for medical freedom.

Democrat Education Omnibus Bill is Crippling Schools
|
Background: In the previous budget cycle passed in 2023, the Democrat trifecta thrust through dozens of new mandates which are now blowing holes in K-12 school budgets across the state. As a member of the K-12 Education Finance Committee, we have heard testimony over-and-over this session from Superintendents, School Board Members, and other school officials of the dire straits district budgets are in.
Why it Matters: I’m a firm believer in returning meaning to the word Independent in Independent School District vs. one-size-fits-all statewide mandates. Student academic proficiency continues to be challenged, teachers and staff continue to be overworked, and district budgets continue to be stressed. Democrats must admit continuing more mandates is only making things worse. We must empower locally elected Boards and with greater autonomy with spending decisions best for the students in their communities. Schools in our community have different needs and priorities than schools in Minneapolis.
Next Steps: I will continue working to roll back mandates and greater school independence, I will continue working to revamp the broken per-pupil funding formula, and I will continue working to fix the broken teacher pension system.

Justice Dept. Launches Investigation of Hennepin DA
|
Background: In late April, Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty implemented a new policy to consider a defendant’s race when negotiating plea deals.
Why it Matters: Race, Color, and Ethnicity are among the protected classes in Minnesota Human Rights statutes. As a George Soros back county prosecutor, Mary Moriarty is violating the law by discriminating against certain races when engaged in criminal plea deals.
Next Steps: On the Senate Floor last week, I offered an amendment to the Judiciary bill that would prohibit race from being considered in criminal plea deals. Unfortunately, all 34 Democrats unanimously blocked my amendment to prohibit institutional racism in legal proceedings. Video of my amendment can be seen at the following link HERE.
On Saturday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it was investigating whether the Hennepin County attorney is “engaged in a pattern or practice of depriving persons of rights, privileges, or immunities security or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.”

Senator-Elect Heintzeman Elected to Senate District 6
|
Background: Tuesday last week, citizens of Senate District 6 headed to the polls to elect their next Minnesota State Senator. In an overwhelming landslide, Republican Keri Heintzeman was elected. The people of Grand Rapids, Crosby, and Brainerd area elected a trusted conservative to the Minnesota Senate.
Why it Matters: The Minnesota Senate is currently split 34-Democrats, 32-Republicans, 1-vacancy. Once Senator-Elect Heintzeman in sworn in tomorrow, the Senate makeup will return to 34-Democrats to 33-Republicans. Democrats will have only a 1-seat majority giving Republicans more negotiating power with the 67-67 evenly split House. The election was also important because the election reinforced the truth conservatives approve of President Trump's leadership. The special election resulted in some of the highest voter turnout among Republican voters this state has ever seen.
Next Steps: I congratulate Senator-Elect Heintzeman on her victory and I look forward to working with her and her staff to create a better Minnesota.

Governor Walz Thinks He's Cool and Appeals to Rural America
|
Background: During a recent interview, Gov. Walz stated he was chosen to be the Vice-Presidential candidate by Presidential candidate Kamala Harris because he could "code talk to white guys." Gov. Walz also stated "watching football, fixing their truck" "put them at ease."
Why it Matters: Not only does Gov. Walz fail to appeal to rural Americans, Gov. Walz is insinuating rural Americans didn't vote for Kamala Harris because she is a Women and not white. In reality, rural voters rejected the Harris/Walz ticket because Gov. Walz and Harris are extreme and out-of-touch with American values.
Next Steps: Gov. Walz needs to spend more time thinking about his job as governor of Minnesota and less time talking about his failed Vice Presidency.
