President Trump's First 100 Days

Image

President Trump’s first 100 days in office have been stacked with wins for working Hoosier families.

First, we’ve seen historic investments in Indiana manufacturing resulting in the creation of good-paying jobs and the renewal of the Made-in-America economy. This surge of investment is no coincidence. It’s the result of a bold trade agenda from the White House that unapologetically puts America and our workers first.

  • Honda is going to build their new Civic in Indiana instead of in Mexico.
  • GM announced that they would increase truck production in Fort Wayne.
  • Eli Lilly, based in Indiana, also plans to invest $27 billion in American manufacturing.
  • Swiss pharmaceuticals company Roche has chosen Indiana for a new plant, announcing a total investment of $50 billion in the United States over the next five years.
  • Guardian Bikes in Seymour, IN has announced a $19M investment to bring bicycle manufacturing back to America.
  • As part of its $23 billion investment in American manufacturing, Novartis plans to expand its facility in Indianapolis.

In just 100 days, President Trump has also created 345,000 jobs, including 27,000 construction jobs and 9,000 manufacturing jobs.

This is a tremendous turnaround from the last administration. Under Biden, 6,000 manufacturing jobs were lost per month from January 2023 to December 2024.

President Trump knows we need to reinvigorate our trade agenda to promote investment, productivity, and security, and make sure our producers are treated fairly.

That’s exactly what he’s done—especially across Indiana.

He’s also making America safer by securing our border and strengthening our nation’s defenses.

The Trump administration has stopped 99.9% of illegal border crossings. That’s a drastic reversal from the invasion tolerated—and even encouraged—by the Biden admin.

Our military’s recruitment is also reaching record-level highs, further boosting our security. The Army is seeing the highest recruitment numbers in 15 years while the Navy’s recruitment is at a 20-year high. Americans are inspired by President Trump’s vision for our country and are energized to serve.

We’re only 100 days into this administration and the shift we’ve seen so far is incredible. The wins for Hoosiers are just getting started and I’m working in the Senate to back up President Trump and keep the wins coming.

Question Of The Week

I recently had the opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.

Hoosier veterans courageously sacrificed for our freedom and as a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, I'm honored to fight for them.

The Family First Act

Image

I recently introduced the Family First Act, which would expand the Child Tax Credit and strengthen support for working families across the country.

This is a commonsense solution that’s going to put more hard-earned money back into the pockets of Hoosier families.

My bill cuts taxes, ends marriage penalties, and streamlines benefits to support strong, working families. Specifically, the bill works by expanding the Child Tax Credit to $4,200 for children under age 6 and $3,000 for all other children—covering up to six kids per family. It also creates a new $2,800 tax credit for pregnant mothers.

Additionally, the bill simplifies the Earned Income Tax Credit and eliminates unfair tax breaks like the state and local tax deduction for wealthy individuals.

I’m dedicated to supporting Hoosier families and this bill is a great way to do that by providing real tax relief for working class families.

Before the start of the 119th Congress, I promised to work with President Trump to put American industry, American citizens, and American families first. This bill is part of fulfilling that promise.

Thanks to Rep. Blake Moore from Utah for leading on this bill in the House.

Fairness in Higher Education Accreditation Act

Image

Last week, I introduced the Fairness in Higher Education Accreditation Act. The bill bars accreditors from forcing colleges to adopt racial or sex-based quotas as a condition of accreditation and requires accreditors to consider a school’s commitment to academic freedom. The bill aligns with President Trump’s recent executive order, Reforming Accreditation to Strengthen Higher Education.

Accreditation should be about academic quality, not about enforcing woke quotas. My bill puts common sense back into accreditation and defends the principles that make American higher education strong. Click here to learn more.

A Huge Win For American Education

Image

President Trump is spot on with his executive order closing the Department of Education.

U.S. Senator Mike Rounds has introduced the Returning Education to Our States Act to back up the President and cement the Department’s closure into law. I’ve proudly signed onto this bill that would return education to the States and stop federal bureaucrats from wasting tax dollars.

This bill is a golden opportunity for Congress to codify one of President Trump’s historic executive actions.

Unaccountable bureaucrats in the federal government have controlled American education for too long and they’ve shamefully failed our students. Our national reading and math scores are near historic lows while the average bureaucrat at the Dept of Ed makes twice as much as a teacher in Indiana. We’re lighting our money on fire while also harming our students. A losing situation for everyone.

That money should be sent back to the states to empower parents, teachers, and local leaders to make the best decisions for students. Closure of the Department allows this to happen.

The bill also preserves critical programs, including disability services, and moves them to different agencies where they can be more effective.

This is a huge win for American education. Click here to learn more.

Republicans Are Focused On Defending Americans

Image

The Trump administration rightfully deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador—his home country.

While President Trump and his team are working to keep Americans safe by deporting violent illegal aliens, Democrats are foolishly insisting that these criminal aliens are entitled to the same due process as Americans.

When President Trump declared MS-13 a foreign terrorist organization, Abrego Garcia became no longer eligible for any form of immigration relief in the United States. He had a valid deportation order and HAD to be returned because of the foreign terrorist designation.

Foreign gang members are not entitled to the same due process as Americans under the Alien Enemies Act. President Trump is following the Constitution and the laws on the books.

Republicans are focused on defending Americans. Meanwhile, Democrats are prioritizing illegal aliens—at the expense of Americans.

Rachel Morin, a Maryland woman, was raped and murdered by an illegal alien in 2023. Her senator never reached out to her family to offer his condolences. But he did have the time to fly all the way down to El Salvador to show his support for Abrego Garcia.

Four Democrat members of Congress recently visited El Salvador to “work” for Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States. They’re fighting to bring a foreign gang member who was in the United States ILLEGALLY back into our homeland. Not to mention, he’s an alleged domestic abuser and suspected human trafficker.

While these Democrat politicians are busy waging lawfare for illegals, President Trump is restoring law and order and I’m with him all the way.

Private Equity Poses Threats To Our Public Safety

Image

Private equity has bought up many of our fire truck manufacturers, combining them into one company that has almost exclusive control of these much-needed truck parts.
With little competition, these dangerous monopolies have caused prices to soar and resulted in huge delays for deliveries that leave our communities vulnerable.

Mayor Finkam of Carmel, IN has raised this issue and been a leader in bringing this problem to light. I appreciate her for drawing attention to the threat these private equity roll-ups of essential manufacturers pose to our public safety. Growing cities like Carmel need fire stations that are fully equipped and prepared.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and I are working to figure out the root issue and ensure investors aren’t lining their shareholders’ pockets at the expense of public safety.

We’ve sent a letter to the International Association of Fire Fighters, North America’s largest firefighters union, seeking information on how these monopolies are impacting firefighters and public safety in Indiana, Massachusetts, and across the country. Click here to learn more.

L3Harris Working To Strengthen America’s Defenses

Image

More great news for Indiana: L3Harris Technologies has invested more than $125 million in expanding and updating its Fort Wayne campus!

'This investment means dozens of good-paying jobs for Hoosiers and scores a solid win for Made-in-America manufacturing. These jobs will strengthen the local Fort Wayne economy in a major way.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee I’m dedicated to bringing more of these jobs back to Indiana.

The expansion also helps further the Department of Defense’s initiative of constructing the “Golden Dome”—a missile interception system to defend the United States from potential threats.

L3Harris is working to strengthen America’s defenses and I’m proud they’re doing it from Fort Wayne.
