Friends -
Four years ago this morning, we woke up to the news of yet another mass shooting, this time in at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
As the morning progressed, it became clear that this tragedy was different: 49 people were killed in a hate-fueled attack on a place that should have been a safe haven for LGBTQ people during Pride month.
At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting in our nation's history. It was a sad, dark day for this country we all love.
Many people described the Pulse Nightclub shooting as "unthinkable" or "unimaginable," but the sad truth is that it was neither.
The United States is the only advanced country in the world where these kinds of mass shootings happen with this kind of frequency.
Americans have had enough of this violence: it's time for Congress to take real action.
We need Congress to close dangerous loopholes that allow hate-filled people to get their hands on a gun.
We need Congress to ensure that people struggling with mental health issues find it easier to access affordable treatment than a firearm.
Today, four years later, our hearts remain with the victims, their families, the Orlando community, and LGBTQ people across America.
Congress has a responsibility to act. Together we will honor those that we've lost by making sure that they do.
All of my best,
Gabby
