Hi there,

U.S. News & World Report asked me about my strategy for winning one of the most competitive districts in the country (You can read the full article here [[link removed]] ). As one of just 13 Democrats in the country to represent a seat that President Trump also won, here’s what I told them.

Democrats need to do a better job of focusing on our basic message. For me, that message is clear: r ebuilding the middle class and helping people who aspire to the middle class. That's about securing good jobs, wages, and benefits, ensuring that hard work is rewarded with the ability to afford things like a home, education, healthcare, and a secure retirement.

While I have several disagreements with President Trump, we cannot define ourselves solely in opposition to him. We need to present a compelling vision for the future of the country.

A recent Washington Post poll found that 70% of Americans see Democrats as out of touch with the concerns of ordinary people today. That’s got to change. And it starts with reclaiming our basic message and materially improving people’s lives.

I’m working every single day to get this message out and deliver for the people of NY-03. But if I’m going to continue this work I need people like you by my side.

If you agree that Democrats need to get back to our core message of fighting for the middle class and solving problems, and if you want to help defend this competitive seat against the millions in outside spending that will come in against me, please consider chipping in right now. Thank you,

Tom Suozzi
