Two weeks ago, gunfire broke out on the subway platform at Harvard Square, just steps from Harvard University’s main campus.
Police say a man fired multiple shots on the subway platform at Harvard Square before fleeing the scene. Thankfully, no one was physically hurt, but as we know all too well, the impact of gun violence doesn’t end there.
Students and staff were forced to shelter in place. Campus life came to a halt. And once again, a space that should have felt safe was filled with fear.
This is what it means to grow up in a country where gun violence is everywhere. Even when no one is physically hurt, it’s still a deeply terrifying experience — and the fear, anxiety, and trauma can stay with you long after the shooting stops.
It shouldn’t take another shooting for action.
