Hi John
Trump’s trade team wants to flood our shelves with low grade food and let consumers decide whether or not they’ll buy it. [1] How about we make that choice for them now? Instead of waiting to read the labels in supermarkets and hoping restaurants don’t serve chlorine-washed chicken and hormone-fed beef - let’s demand that future trade deals protect food and environmental standards in law.
Boris Johnson and his government have made promises and broken them before. Just last weekend his Trade and Environment Secretaries said they won’t “lower our food, farming, health and animal welfare standards as we negotiate our new post-Brexit trade deals.” [2] If they really mean that, they should put this promise in law through the Agriculture Bill. Let’s hold them to it.
