United States: Does gluten transfer during a kiss between individuals?
Individuals with celiac disease worry about gluten transmission, but researchers have released reassuring results. New research from the Digestive Disease Week meeting (May 3 – 6 in San Diego) showed celiac disease patients remained symptom-free after kissing someone who ate a large amount of saltine crackers, as reported by HealthDay.
The researchers examined celiac patients by collecting saliva samples, which demonstrated that kisses lasting 10 seconds transferred minimal amounts of gluten.
