John,Our city is facing an affordability crisis, plain and sample. But here’s the truth: a lot of this isn’t just inflation – it’s corporate greed and sheer recklessness.

Junk fees, price hikes, predatory loans, and monopoly power are draining people’s wallets, while billion-dollar companies post record profits.

Meanwhile, the fascists in the Oval Office just took a chainsaw to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In April, Trump fired 90% of staff at the agency created in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis to protect everyday people from predatory big business and corporate greed.

Without the CFPB, big banks and big businesses have the green light to exploit us. Now, without any check from the federal government, they can hike fees, destroy your credit report, jack up prices of essential goods during disasters, and mislead consumers into signing predatory loans.

And who will pay the price? All of us – student borrowers, working families, seniors, and small businesses are all at risk. Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Wall Street cronies are salivating at the idea of making millions off the backs of everyday people.

As the Chief Financial Officer of New York City, I’m proud to say: No f**king way.

We must take decisive action at the City and State level to protect New Yorkers’ financial security. I’m proud to do that as your Comptroller, and I’ll be even prouder to do so as your next Mayor.

That’s why I released a new plan to stop corporate greed and protect everyday New Yorkers from being scammed. Here’s what my Consumer & Small Business Protection Agenda will do:

* Fully arm the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to enforce consumer rights and fill the gaps that will be left by Trump’s gutting of the CFPB.
* Protect student borrowers from deceptive lenders and predatory for-profit schools.
* Fight hidden junk fees that hit New Yorkers and small businesses without warning.
* Enforce price-gouging rules to ensure New Yorkers don’t get nickel and dimed for basic goods and services.
* Buy back medical debt so no New Yorkers go bankrupt for simply needing health care.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE agenda is not about bureaucracy or cutting red tape – it’s about greed, pure and simple. It’s why they gutted the CFPB. It’s why they stole $80 million from New York City’s bank account.

John, my promise to you is that I will always stand up and fight back – as New York City’s Chief Financial Officer, and as your next mayor. I’ll be the fiscal watchdog protecting your rights and your wallet, every step of the way.
