Protecting the Great Salt Lake isn’t a one-and-done victory. It’s a generational challenge that demands sustained action, organized communities, and long-term policy change.
During the 2025 legislative session, Stewardship Utah spent 821 hours at the Capitol : building coalitions, supporting frontline advocates, and ensuring lawmakers heard the call to prioritize the lake. We hosted weekly Great Salt Lake Lobby Days to train and mobilize residents from across Utah—from Box Elder to San Juan County—to speak directly to their representatives. This work during the session helped keep the lake front and center, demanding the attention of our state leaders. And without our base of monthly supporters, it would not have happened.

But many lawmakers now think the job is done—or that the lake’s fate is out of their hands. That’s why we’re not slowing down. For the remainder of the year, and with your help, we’re shifting to year-round community meetings and continued policy engagement , strengthening our network of local leaders who will shape policies defining Utah’s water future.
