Rare acidic seepage swamp in Newington Conservation Area
As the climate crisis worsens, we must take action to reduce and capture carbon emissions and plan development in urban areas with an eye toward both climate resiliency, sustainability, and protecting our environment. Tradeoffs can be challenging. Join a May 6 webinar (7:00 PM) to learn about the proposed Cinder Bed Road Bikeway and how the planning process for this planned bikeway is currently failing to protect a globally rare habitat in Fairfax County.
The May 6 webinar ([link removed]) will be followed by a tour of the rare acidic seepage swamp through which the bikeway is to be built. The May 18 tour ([link removed]) will be led by Alan Ford, president of Virginia Native Plant Society, Potowmack Chapter. (Meeting place will be revealed to people who register.)
Co-sponsored by Nature Forward, Northern Virginia Bird Alliance (formerly Audubon Society of Northern Virginia), Friends of Accotink Creek, Sierra Club Great Falls Group, Virginia Native Plant Society Potowmack Chapter, and Friends of Little Hunting Creek.
