Hi friend,

Last week marked 100 days of the Trump administration, an important benchmark in any presidency. I’ll have more to say below but right off the bat I wanted to say that I have been so grateful for the response to Patriot Weekly in these first 100 days of the chaotic Trump administration. The response has been so positive, and my team and I look forward to putting these together every week. We started sending these just a few weeks after Trump was sworn in, and it has helped me feel connected to you and to the work happening in communities here in the Hudson Valley and across the country.

While these first few months have shown the Trump administration to be chaotic and reckless, I am proud to be in this fight right alongside you. Thank you for continuing to read these and stay engaged.

What's going on

Hudson Valley

The funding bill passed by Republicans and signed by Trump in March included more than $6 million in cuts to our local law enforcement – $1.8 million in cuts to Ulster County alone. Working hand-in-hand with local Sheriffs, I had pushed relentlessly for landmark investments to bolster public safety across the Hudson Valley. And frankly, I, and local leaders on both sides of the aisle in the Hudson Valley, were shocked when Trump and Johnson took every single dollar for our Sheriffs out of their budget – I truly didn’t think they’d cut crucial public safety efforts, and there is no community leader or constituent I hear from who is in favor of cutting critical funding for public safety. I proudly voted against these cuts, but unfortunately, Trump signed it into law.

What I’m doing: Last month, I joined Ulster County Sheriff Figueroa in Kingston to call attention to these cuts and the serious impacts they will have on public safety here in the Hudson Valley. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we pass my Invest to Protect Act, critical bipartisan legislation that would support smaller police departments like those in the Hudson Valley that are too often left behind. I refuse to let the chaos, divisiveness and cruelty of Trump get in the way of delivering – I’ll keep working every single day to make our community more safe for your kids and mine.

What you can do: Cutting investments in our local law enforcement makes communities less safe – full stop. We need to put a lot of pressure on leaders to restore this critical funding with my Invest to Protect Act. Please, call your member of congress and tell them to sign on to this important legislation. While it may feel like a small act, if hundreds or thousands of constituents call their member of congress, it can have a real impact.

New York

The number one issue I continue to hear about everywhere I go is affordability. Supply chains have a direct and serious impact on the costs of goods once they hit the shelf. Recent national and international events, whether it’s Trump’s tariff war, the global pandemic, or natural disasters, have exposed weaknesses in American supply chain networks that weaken our strength and security. We’ve all felt these weaknesses personally when we go to the store to buy eggs, or try to buy our kids and grandkids the newest video game console.

What I’m doing: I know good news out of Washington is hard to come by these days, but last week, my bipartisan legislation to strengthen our supply chains and lower costs passed the House of Representatives. This will have a real impact on the lives of New Yorkers and people across the country and will not only help lower costs, but will bring back good-paying jobs to the Hudson Valley.

What you can do: Passing the House was the first big hurdle, but now we need this bill to pass the Senate. Click here to see if your Senator is a co-sponsor of the Senate bill, and if you don’t see their name, I urge you to call their offices and voice your support.

Washington

While it feels like a lifetime has passed since Trump was inaugurated in January, last week marked the first 100 days of Trump’s second term as president. This is generally a time to take stock of the legislative accomplishments, or lack thereof, and look at the foundation that the administration has set for the next four years. I don’t have to tell you that Trump’s first 100 days in office have been chaotic and overwhelming, and the only people who have benefited are the ultra-billionaires who got him there.

What I’m doing: I have spent every second of the Trump administration fighting like hell to push back on some of his egregious actions. I’ve put forth legislation to keep Social Security offices open, to invest in local law enforcement, address the housing crisis and so much more. I’ve also been meeting with members of the community about how cuts to government services are taking effect right here in the Hudson Valley. By using my voice on social media and in the news, I have refused to let this administration sweep their national security violations under the rug.

This is just the beginning, and no matter what happens tomorrow or the day after, I won’t stop fighting.

What you can do:  We cannot give an inch to this administration. This first 100 days may have been overwhelming, but we have to keep up the fight. Please do not get tired now, it’s more important than ever to stay engaged. I would encourage you to find local groups in your community, join a rally to call attention to how the Trump agenda has impacted your neighbors, call your representative – and don’t stop calling – to make sure they know that this agenda doesn’t represent you, and find ways to support people in your community running for office.

Going on offense

Whether it’s calling attention to how Republicans will cut Medicaid, highlighting cuts to programs that supply food banks, or continuing to beat the drum on how this administration is weakening our national security, I have not stopped using my platform to push back on what’s happening in Washington. If you are not already following my accounts, please consider doing so. I share important updates and news clips on social media – I would love it if you could share some of my posts with your own network so we can increase our reach.
