Does a president need to uphold the Constitution? Trump says "I don't know"
The MAGA cult leader was asked point blank if he thinks he needs to uphold the Constitution and responded: "I don't know. I'm not, I'm not a lawyer. I don't know." Oh, we know you aren't a lawyer, Donald. But something tells us a law degree isn't what's keeping you from understanding and upholding the US Constitution. Pretty sure it's your fascism.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump goes full dictator with latest illegal move
On the latest episode of "Democracy Watch," Brian Tyler Cohen and Marc Elias discuss the MAGA cult leader's wildly illegal weaponization of the IRS in his ongoing war against Harvard University, which thus far has withstood the president's incessant demands to remake its nearly 400-year mission to meet his fleeting standards.

Proven winner Chris Pappas announces bid to keep crucial New Hampshire Senate seat blue
Chris Pappas for Senate: Now that Senator Shaheen is retiring, Chris Pappas is aiming to make history by becoming the first openly gay man elected to the U.S. Senate and keep a vitally important Senate seat in Democratic hands. Rep. Chris Pappas has served New Hampshire for 20 years and has a proven track record of taking on the big fights– from battling Big Pharma to lowering drug prices to facing off with predatory companies that target veterans — while winning election after election in one of the swingiest districts in the country. If we're to have any chance of derailing Trump's appalling agenda of cruelty, chaos, and corruption, we need to retake the Senate, we need to protect this must-win seat from whichever MAGA extremist tries to snatch it away. Will you help jump-start Chris Pappas' campaign with a donation?
MTG threatens to withhold future votes for Trump in meandering Twitter screed
QAnon Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene vowed to withhold any future votes for the GOP's major reconciliation bill unless she gets all of the things that she wants, which includes an immediate end to ALL aid for Ukraine, permanent DOGE funding cuts, and Trump’s promises of no taxes on tips, overtime, or Social Security. Whether or not the space laser expert will actually follow through on her threats remains to be seen, but it is a sharp reminder that it is not going to be easy for the MAGA cult leader and Speaker Mike Johnson to herd the feral jackals that make up the Republican caucus.

Israeli ministers "approve plan to capture all of Gaza"
The Israeli government is moving forward with their plans to fully colonize the Gaza Strip, approving a new measure that would expand Israeli control over the devastated enclave and call for the forcible displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to Gaza’s south, doubtlessly exacerbating an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

Trump says he will reopen notorious Alcatraz prison
Hoo boy. We can't believe we have to type this out, but there is no viable path to reopen Alcatraz nor any strategic advantage for law enforcement or public safety to do so. Donald Trump is a nincompoop who just thinks Alcatraz sounds tough. Bringing the facility, which closed more than 60 years ago due to crumbling infrastructure and increasing operating expenses, up to modern-day standards would require massive investments at a time when the Bureau of Prisons has been shuttering prisons for similar infrastructure issues. There's also the minor detail that Alcatraz is now a museum and cannot be re-opened as a prison at the stroke of Donald's sharpie. In related news, no word yet on whether Nicolas Cage will be asked to reprise his role as chemical warfare expert Dr. Stanley Goodspeed but, like, in real life this time.
"He needs to resign": Democrats react with quiet shock to damning John Fetterman profile
When Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was hospitalized for depression in 2023, many on Capitol Hill celebrated it as a moment of courage and a willingness to be open about mental health struggles. Now, a startling picture of relapse and its associated cost is being associated with him after a deeply sourced profile on Fetterman was published Friday in Intelligencer by reporter Ben Terris. Democrats on Capitol Hill have yet to comment. But the shock from the profile’s reporting was evident across social media and on political talk programs. “He needs to resign,” The xxxxxx’s Jonathan Last, a supporter of the senator who wrote that he “was the first person to suggest that John Fetterman could run for president”, said on The Secret Podcast with co-host Sarah Longwell. Longwell, who agreed, called the piece’s revelations “career-ending.”
Trump bros down with ex-Proud Boys boss at Mar-a-Lago
Former Proud Boys leader and pardoned convict Enrique Tarrio met with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, where the pair reportedly had a cozy, 10-minute chat — like a coupla ex-felons are wont to do? The far-right militant approached the MAGA cult leader on Saturday alongside a member of the club to thank the president for his heinous pardon. "He called me and my Mother over while we were at dinner and said he was sorry for what @JoeBiden did to all J6ers," Tarrio wrote on nüTwitter. "I thanked him for giving me my life back. He replied with…I Love You guys. To the J6ers he wanted me to send y’all a message…He said…Thank you." No big deal. Just the president of the United States THANKING rioters and domestic terrorists for violently attacking cops, storming the US Capitol, destroying federal property and smearing feces on the hallways of Congress, and trying to help him literally overthrow democracy. Good stuff.
"A slippery slope to eugenics": Advocates reject RFK Jr’s national autism database
Autism researchers and advocates are pushing back against the creation of Robert F. Kennedy's autism database — meant to track the health of autistic people in a definitely dubious major research study — and pointing to the myriad ways such databases could (and almost certainly would) be misused. While the US Department of Health and Human Services denies it’s a registry, the agency did confirm a sweeping database of autistic people will power a $50 million study on autism. Kennedy himself said just last week that he plans to announce results from the study — within months. The causes of autism spectrum disorder, a range of neurological and developmental conditions that usually center on how people interact, communicate, learn and behave, have already been identified as genetic in the vast majority of cases. Even so, Kennedy announced at a Cabinet meeting last week that the new study had been launched. A federal database run by a worm-addled conspiracy theorist with a serious science allergy to track, invade the privacy of, and effectively brandish millions of Americans of all ages with proverbial letter "A's." What could possibly go horribly wrong?
