Email from MCRGO   MICHIGAN COALITION FOR RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS "Promoting safe use and ownership of firearms through education, litigation, and legislation." MONDAY E'NEWS   NRA State Association Last year, MCRGO's Board of Directors voted to pursue state association status with the National Rifle Association. At its April 2025 quarterly meeting, the NRA's Board of Directors voted to approve MCRGO as the sole official NRA State Association in Michigan. MCRGO also currently holds association status with the Civilian Marksmanship Program and the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Like its association status with other organizations, MCRGO's board and membership will remain independent of the NRA. MCRGO never shares its membership database with any other organization including the NRA. Additionally, MCRGO's training program, legal activities, and legislative advocacy will maintain their independence from the NRA. MCRGO has been participating in monthly conference calls with NRA state associations from various states in recent months. These meetings have already yielded dividends regarding MCRGO's administration, communications, and political action. The historically close working relationship MCRGO has had with the NRA-ILA's state presence in Michigan will become even stronger. We look forward to new ideas in grassroots advocacy and volunteer recruitment as part of our exchange with other NRA state associations. We anticipate the establishment of new competitive shooting opportunities and youth programs in the coming years, financed in part by state association grants. The NRA is not the only national firearms organization. But it is, by far, the largest. NRA-ILA is a frequent legislative partner with Michigan's allied gun groups in the Michigan Legislature. The only other national group active legislatively on the state level in Michigan is NSSF. In the 2024 elections, NRA-PVF spent more than 10 times all the other national gun groups combined, including leading a very successful GOTV campaign in Michigan and Wisconsin. NRA is very active in training and sport shooting competitions. No other national gun group has the breadth, depth, and history of the NRA. We recognize that some concerns remain regarding the NRA's recent past history. MCRGO Second-Vice Chair Steve Dulan discusses the NRA's reforms and rebuilding on the front page of the quarterly On Target newsletter published two weeks ago.
