Charter schools are often linked to right-wing forces that can be unconcerned with effects of school closings. There is a larger scheme to privatize Medicare, social security, the postal service, and parks and forests and affect other benefits that all should enjoy. Charter schools can undermine public school financing via “sweeps” contracts and excessive lease agreements. It is possible to improve working conditions at all schools through organizing, negotiating, and striking when necessary. The webinar will explore tactics and strategy for resisting school closures.Hear from …• Dave Cash, President, United Teachers of New Orleans• Karen Francisco, Advocates for Public Education Policy (Colorado)Casandra Ulbrich, Ph.D., Network for Public Education• Chris Baehrend, Chicago Teachers Union, Local 1, IFT-AFT/AFL-CIO• Jitu Brown, Journey for Justice, Chicago Board of Education• Don Fitz, Green Party of St. Louis (moderator)Missouri Green Party Outreach |
