![]() Despite all the attempts by right-wing extremists to vilify LGBTQ+ people, this actually isn’t controversial: The vast majority of the American people fundamentally believe in equality. We believe in full, equal protection under the law. And we believe that no one should face discrimination because of who they are or who they love. That’s why Sharice was proud to help reintroduce the Equality Act on the House floor earlier this week — so that our laws finally reflect that basic belief.
As Kansas’ first-ever openly LGBTQ+ Congressperson, this legislation is personal to Sharice. Right now, in a majority of states across the country, including Kansas, it is still legal to discriminate against LGBTQ+ folks in housing, education, health care, and nearly every aspect of day to day life. But the Equality Act would change that. If we get this legislation past the finish line, it would extend federal civil rights protections to members of the LGBTQ+ community, and ensure that every American can enjoy their most basic human rights, no matter what state they reside in. It is unacceptable that in 2025, the federal government is still denying full equality to LGBTQ+ Americans — and that’s why we’re counting on your help.
It is long past time for this commonsense bill to become law, so thank you for using your voice. Team Sharice |
