Empowering Hispanic Voices

This week, I spoke at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Capitol Forum and the National Association of Hispanic Publications Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

Spanish-language media outlets are an important tool in keeping communities informed and engaged. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with publishers from Texas on Tuesday.

Texas is home to over 90 Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Supporting our students and future workforce is vital to our nation’s success. On Wednesday, I joined HACU's Annual Capitol Forum to advocate for HSIs in Texas and across the country.

As Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Conference, I remain committed to making sure Hispanic voices are heard in every arena—from the classroom to the newsroom to the halls of Congress.

Tackling the Fentanyl Crisis

For years, ineffective policies at our borders have allowed dangerous drugs, including fentanyl, to flow freely into our country.

I’m working with Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) to address this crisis head-on by increasing penalties for those responsible for trafficking this deadly drug.

This week, I introduced the Felony Murder for Deadly Fentanyl Distribution Act, which increases criminal penalties on fentanyl traffickers to a felony murder charge if their actions result in a fatality.

Building the Border Security Budget

As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and representative of the largest border district in the nation, I was tasked with advancing President Donald Trump's border security budget. What we put together reflects the many priorities of the communities I am proud to serve.

This week, we advanced a budget framework that enhances border security technology and infrastructure, staffs up CBP, and invests in public safety initiatives.

It's time to finish the job and deliver for the American people.

Cracking Down on Deepfakes

This week, I voted YES on the Take It Down Act to protect our kids and combat the spread of nonconsensual, AI-generated images online.

This bipartisan, bicameral bill is a historic win in the fight to protect victims of revenge porn and deepfakes as it forces social media platforms to rapidly remove explicit images.

Victims and parents deserve peace of mind, and bad actors must be held accountable.
