May the 4th be with you!
(I've been waiting all year to type that again.)
Yesterday, I beat the rain and went to the grocery store to get food for the week. Now, for those of you who have no problem getting to and fro, going to the grocery store may not sound like much of an outing. But having ordered my food for two years, being able to drive there and push a cart around the store is really a treat. Of course, it would be more of a treat if everything wasn't so darned pricy, but I digress.
I read something that called little bright spots in your day "glimmers." Basically, they're the opposite of "triggers," a word I don't love but one that is accurate for many during these stressful times. Recognizing and acknowledging all the glimmers is supposed to be great for your mental health, which makes sense to me.
Having a vehicle again, being able to do small errands for myself, and just walking around a store are all glimmers that make me feel happy if I take the time to acknowledge them. Life can be darned challenging, so why not take the time to recognize little pleasures?
The sound of a cleansing rain hitting the windowsill...
A call from a friend...
A delicious meal made from simple ingredients...
A good book from the library...
A purring cat on your lap...
A friendly dog you met while walking to your car...
A poofy spring dress and matching a snazzy cane to it...
A talk with your mom...
A good movie with your daughter...
The loaded rosebush in the courtyard...
Life is full of these teeny tiny little glimmers if you only look for them. Savoring and enjoying small things has made such a difference in my life.
Last week, we found a far less expensive storage unit and moved things from our more expensive one. The price of the one nearby just kept going up, and we finally had had enough. The benefit won't be notable this month because of the price of a U-Haul, but next month, the savings will be significant. It was an exhausting day, but totally worth it.
I hope that you have a wonderful week ahead.
Stay safe.
Be happy.Love,
Daisy
