Hey, True Texans!
I love my job! One of the best parts is getting to be snarky sometimes. And - whoo! - y'all have not disappointed this week! Dade Phelan got the House to pass his childish bill outlawing memes that don't have disclaimers. LOL Apparently poor wittle Dade got his feewings hurt on social media. Someone call the wambulance! 😭 In response, Texans did what we do best... acted defiantly and started creating hilarious memes. I mean, come on... the guy was asking for it, wasn't he? Here's one:
Gonna put us all in jail, Dade? One year for a meme!
And then folks went so far as to decorate his office door with printouts of memes!
Too funny. Lighten up, Dade, and learn to take a joke. Or better yet, quit doing atrocious things that are meme-able. This week we're calling on y'all to ask the Senate to squash this nonsense.
True Texas Task for Today This is a perfect segue to let y'all know we started a daily True Texas Task for the month of May. Until the end of session, we're going to take the weekly action items that Fran puts in her Friday emails and break them down into one task per day. ONE & DONE! Each day, we'll post a graphic on our social media with very simple, clear, and fast action you can take to promote freedom. Watch for those -- they look like this:
What's Your "Why"? Ok, snarkiness aside, my pastor delivered an incredible sermon last week. I couldn't wait to share it with you. It's from Nehemiah, one of the few examples of good leadership in the Old Testament it seems! He started off by telling us, "If we can get to the why of the burden we carry, it will keep us going when the struggle comes."
Why have I given up so much of my life trying to save Texas? Why have you?
I can tell you, for me it's all about my daughter. I can't count how many times I've said that if it wasn't for Lizzy, I'd throw up my hands and declare to ignorant voters (who aren't even listening anyway), "You made this mess; you live with it." But I can't do that, can I? I have a daughter that needs a free Texas, and so I keep going. She is my "why". What's yours?
The message went on to cover obstacles, in-fighting, attacks, and how to press toward victory. But you have to know your why. There truly is "nothing new under the sun". Watch it here if you'd like, starting at the 35:50 minute mark. I left feeling inspired, and who couldn't use more of that?
In The News True Texas Project is always being talked about... usually in a negative light as the media loves to try to tear us down. However, Dallas Express wrote a great piece this week featuring Fran Rhodes, our President, as she discusses taxpayer-funded lobbying. Check it out.
Local Elections As I write this, voters are still at the polls for the local elections being held this weekend all across the state. You guys worked hard, and we will anxiously tally results this week to see how well we did. Thank you to all those who stepped up to campaign, run, and vote. Saving Texas is a big job, and this is a key piece.
Capitol Engagement
Every Tuesday through session we meet up at the Capitol! Almost done - session ends in one month! I've been able to go several times this session, and I'll be there this week and next as well. I hope you'll join us at least one time before the clock runs out.
May Calendar Check out our May calendar, right click if you'd like to save it to your device to reference later, or just go to truetexasproject.com/events.
Here's one more event that didn't make it onto the calendar: May 15th - Tarrant - Two Steppin' & Texas Tunes (On a personal note, I'm super excited about this one because my daughter is bringing her beau who will happen to be in Texas for a visit! Come meet him. 😉 )
Our podcast dropped this past week, and it's so fun! We recorded Kevin Sorbo at our Texas Tough gala, and we're making his message available to all! We've never offered a recording of our gala keynote before, so this is a special treat.
Fun Recap of Texas Tough! Let's continue on that fun note! Our video tech at our gala sent me this recap he created from Texas Tough. I love it! Our official recap video is different from this one (it's included on our social media pages and in the May meeting announcements), but take a look and relive a great night!
Texas Tough Gala 2025
Never a dull moment, and that's how we like it! Thanks for being part of the True Texas army!
