Dear Friend,

We can’t fix what we can’t see and right now both the Trump Administration
and Republican leadership in Congress are trying to erase the very
information that helps us save moms’ lives and ensure healthy beginnings
for babies.

health and Medicaid!!

Behind every data point is a story - a mom, a baby, a family. But right
now the Trump Administration is slashing programs that tracks how moms and
their babies are doing during pregnancy, birth, and beyond; information
about what moms go through during pregnancy and birth; data that helps
address our maternal mortality crisis; and information on things like
fertility, birth control, and treatments like IVF.[1] These are the very
tools that help us understand why moms are dying and what needs to change.
They aren't just numbers, they are stories. Stories of real moms. Stories
of real babies. Stories of real families.  Stories that demand action!

And the danger doesn’t stop there.

Republican leaders in Congress and the Administration are now threatening
to gut a range of life-saving maternal health programs from
community-based care for infants and toddlers to postpartum support for
mental health services and research of stillbirth prevention.[ [link removed] ] On top of
that, Republican leaders are coming for Medicaid, the backbone of maternal
health in this country. Medicaid covers over 40% of births in the US and
it's a lifeline for families before, during, and after pregnancy.[ [link removed] ]

programs like the Healthy Start, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring
System, Maternal Mental Health Programs, Preschool Development Grants and
Medicaid!

Without these programs, without this care, without this data, we are
flying blind in a crisis. The U.S. is still the most dangerous place to
give birth among wealthy countries and black women are hit the hardest.
They are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related
causes than white women. These heartbreaking numbers stay the same no
matter someone's income, education, or insurance. And rural moms face a
growing crisis too. In 2020, nearly 38 moms out of every 100,000 births in
rural areas didn’t survive pregnancy or childbirth, compared to 31 in
other areas. That gap speaks to a lack of access, not just to hospitals
and prenatal care, but to the basic support every family deserves.[ [link removed] ] When
we lose these programs, we lose more than funding. We lose the truth. We
lose the ability to see and share the real stories behind the statistics.
And when those stories go untold, so do the solutions.

This is a fight for survival. For justice. For the right of every mom to
give birth safely and every baby to have a healthy start. We need more
investment, not less. We need our elected leaders to put people before
politics.

Medicaid!

Let's raise our voices. Let's protect these stories. Let's demand better
for every mom, every baby, and every family.

Together we are a powerful voice in the movement to save moms.

MamásConPoder Team

P.S.  Part of what’s at risk with these cuts is the ability to hear and
understand the real experiences of moms and families. When we lose
programs that collect maternal health data, we lose the stories that show
where care is failing. Have you or someone you love recently given birth?

save lives.
