![]() The Attorney General is the most powerful lawyer in the country, and being appointed AG comes with an enormous responsibility to uphold the rule of law and hold wrongdoers accountable without prejudice. But Pam Bondi has chosen to ignore that responsibility and her oath to support and defend the Constitution. Instead, she has weaponized the Department of Justice to go after Donald Trump’s political enemies, and repeatedly abused her position of public trust. Bondi’s behavior is unethical and disqualifying, full stop. That’s why I just sent a letter urging the Florida Bar to investigate her misconduct and sanction her appropriately, including potential disbarment.
As the country’s most powerful lawyer, Pam Bondi should be held to the highest ethical standards. But with each passing day, it is becoming more clear that she is willing to toss aside her ethical obligations as an attorney in pursuit of her partisan political goals. In her first days as Attorney General, she was involved in approving a potential quid pro quo agreement between Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, and the Department of Justice. In exchange for Adams’ support of President Trump’s deportation plan, the Department of Justice moved to dismiss Adams’ previous corruption charges! Bondi has even argued that the federal government has the power to deport individuals without any due process, based solely on the determination of Donald Trump! And just last week, Bondi appeared to threaten judges who might try to stop Trump’s illegal deportations with jail. These violations of the rule of law are deeply troubling for any attorney. But for the Attorney General of the United States? It is flat-out disqualifying.
