Donald Trump has spent the last few weeks attacking public broadcasters like NPR and PBS any chance he gets. He took his attacks to the next level by signing an executive order directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to immediately stop all federal funding for PBS and NPR.1
Donald Trump and his allies want to defund independent public journalism because it threatens MAGA's grip on the national narrative. This is right out of the authoritarian playbook—controlling the free press and limiting the public’s access to information.
Now more than ever, it’s critical that we make our voices heard and fight to protect vital access to factual, independent news.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a private entity that is supposed to be protected from government interference. Yet earlier this week, Trump tried to undermine the Corporation for Public Broadcasting again by attempting to fire three board members—without actually having the power to do so.2
It's crystal clear that Donald Trump is once again abusing his power and will do anything to attack public broadcasting and independent outlets that dare to report facts and information exposing Trump’s lies.3

Since taking office, Donald Trump has spent his second term wreaking havoc on our communities and attacking services that Americans need and deserve. Public broadcasting provides every community with access to news and critical educational programming, and reaching 99% of households across the nation.4
Cutting federal funds for public broadcasting would hurt the nation’s most vulnerable communities. In many rural areas, the only news sources are local public broadcasting stations. These cuts could force these smaller stations to shut down and restrict communities' access to critical news and alerts.5
We now see how far Trump is willing to go to use the tools of government for his personal agenda, and disappointingly we've seen numerous for-profit media entities bend to his will. We have to come together to put pressure on Republicans to stop these attacks and protect public broadcasting.
