🐾 Honoring Four-Legged Heroes This National Pet Week

They sniff out explosives, track down threats, rescue the lost, and stand by our Service Members through some of the toughest moments imaginable—Military Working Dogs (MWDs) are more than man’s best friend. They are loyal protectors, steadfast partners, and silent warriors in our Armed Forces.

This National Pet Week (May 4–10, 2025)—which also falls during Military Appreciation Month—Soldiers’ Angels is thrilled to honor these incredible four-legged heroes with a week-long donation drive to provide much-needed supplies for MWDs and their handlers!

🦴 What We’re Collecting

We’ve connected directly with military dog handlers to understand exactly what these hardworking canines need. Here’s what made the top of their wish list:

Large bowls for food and water

Tough toys for power chewers

Grooming tools

LOTS of poop bags!

📌 Please do NOT send: Dog food or treats of any kind. MWDs are on highly specialized diets.

Dogs of Duty: Honoring a Legacy of Loyalty & Service

From World War II’s Doberman scouts to the heroic modern missions of Cairo and Conan, Military Working Dogs (MWDs) have stood on the front lines of history — sniffing out danger, protecting troops, and forging bonds of loyalty that rival any battlefield brotherhood.

Our recent blog, Dogs of Duty: The Story and Legacy of Military Working Dogs, traces the remarkable journey of America’s elite K9 warriors. Through real-life stories, national monuments, and tales of unmatched bravery, it’s a moving tribute to the four-legged heroes who’ve faithfully served beside our troops for over 80 years.

As we celebrate these silent heroes, join us in sending care items that support their health, strength, and comfort in the field. Because every hero — even the ones with paws — deserves to be honored.

Honoring Our Heroes in Boynton Beach

Soldiers’ Angels volunteers recently joined American Legion Post 164 in Boynton Beach for a special dinner honoring local World War II and Korean War Veterans. It was a true privilege to support this heartfelt event and show our deepest appreciation to some of our nation’s most cherished heroes.

Tribute to Our Heroes: Marine Corps Veteran Bethany Heinesh

In this moving episode of Tribute to Our Heroes, we sit down with Marine Corps Veteran Bethany Heinesh to hear her powerful journey — from enlisting on a dare, to surviving military trauma, battling addiction, and ultimately finding healing and purpose through her work with Soldiers’ Angels.

Bethany’s story is one of resilience, grit, and transformation. She opens up about the challenges of transitioning to civilian life, the hidden struggles many Veterans face, and the hope that comes with recovery and community.

Support Deployed Troops Year-Round with Go Camo!

Did you miss the big news? Our Go Camo Care Package Collection is now a year-round campaign—and there’s no better time to get involved than during Military Appreciation Month!

Every year, Soldiers’ Angels sends thousands of care packages to Service Members deployed in remote and often austere locations. These packages aren’t just boxes—they’re a lifeline of comfort, encouragement, and a reminder that America has not forgotten them.

But to keep the care flowing, we need your help collecting the most-requested items that go into these packages—everything from hygiene essentials to snacks, comfort items, and a few small tokens of home.

💬 From the Front Lines

“These packages go a LONG way. We have no access to a PX or shoppette, so there is always a huge spike in morale when mail comes in with all of your care packages!”

— Chaplain Schmitz

“The days all merge into one… But we keep our heads up and remember the passion and love we have for our country. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for remembering us!”

— Shelly, Deployed Service Member

Whether you give one item or organize an entire drive, you’re making a real difference for those serving far from home. Let’s show our deployed heroes that during Military Appreciation Month—and every month—they are never forgotten.
