My plan to make New York City’s streets safer and more reliable

Brad Lander for NYC Mayor

John — To put it bluntly (and literally), New York City is at a crossroads. 🚦

Traffic fatalities are rising. Our public transit system needs urgent revitalization. And too many New Yorkers feel unsafe walking, biking, or riding the subway.

New Yorkers deserve streets where kids can bike safely to school, seniors can cross the street without anxiety, deliveries don’t snarl traffic, and public transit is a first-choice option — not a last resort.

I don’t just have a transportation strategy, John. This week, I unveiled a blueprint for a safer, more livable, and more vibrant New York.

When I’m Mayor of New York City, I will make sure that every New Yorker has safe, reliable, and affordable transit by:

🚃 Guaranteeing six-minute subway service
🚌 Dramatically improving bus service citywide
🚲 Eliminating traffic violence and recommitting the City to Vision Zero
🛵 Expanding accessible transit options for all New Yorkers

I will also make our streets safer and deliver the world-class public realm that New Yorkers deserve by:

🚸 Implementing bold, permanent street redesigns to eliminate traffic deaths on city streets
🚲 Making bikes a safe, affordable, and citywide transportation option
Making streets and sidewalks more accessible, while addressing the rapid increase in truck deliveries and mopeds

And I will fight for better-run curbs by:

🅿️ Rethinking parking so New Yorkers don’t have to fight over scraps at the curb
🛣️ Reforming alternate side parking rules for cleaner streets
🚗 Cracking down on the worst parking scofflaws

With your help, we’ll make New York City’s streets and transit system safer, more reliable, and more livable for all New Yorkers. Learn about my public transit plan here (and if you want to read all 29 pages, head over here)

Thank you,

Brad
