South Asia
Thanks for your prayers last week for our journalists’ workshop! We trained 40 reporters from print, digital and broadcast channels so they are better equipped to share about human trafficking and related issues. We’ve already seen 15 articles come out in the days since the event. Please pray for ongoing momentum with journalists so we can bust myths about trafficking and ensure vulnerable communities know the truth.
Africa & Europe
Please continue to pray for our Kenya team as we fight for justice in the case of murder and other atrocities committed by police during post-election violence in 2017, including the death of a six-month old child. The defendants in this case have sought to derail justice through multiple appeals to avoid court cases against them. Please pray that the Kenyan court system succeeds next week in forcing these defendants to enter a plea, and that the effort to secure justice for the families who were affected can proceed.
Latin America
We praise God for bringing justice in the life of a survivor of sexual violence in Bolivia. After suffering abuse from age 8 to 16 at the hands of her uncle, the survivor was finally able to confide in her cousin. At the time the police referred the case to PROBOS, one of IJM’s trained partners in Bolivia, the aggressor was still at large. But we praise God for His mercy in bringing the aggressor to justice. The PROBOS team secured a 10-year sentence last week! Please pray for the survivor’s full restoration and for healing within her family.
Asia Pacific
We praise God for the continued leadership of PLDT, the Philippines’ leading telecommunications company, and its wireless communications and digital services subsidiary, Smart Communications, in the fight against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC). In partnership with IJM Philippines, they are working alongside the government to combat this devastating crime and strengthen protection for every Filipino child. May their commitment inspire more companies and nations to join in creating a safer, more just world for the most vulnerable.
