Dear John,
I know you’re seeing a lot of emails from me lately! As we enter the final stretch of the legislative session, this is a critical time for pushing forward the climate, environmental, and democracy priorities we are championing this year . It's also a really important time for lawmakers to hear directly from you, their constituents. It’s been amazing to see the outpouring of activism over the last few weeks — a huge thank you to everyone who has been signing our petitions, emailing your lawmakers, and delivering and submitting testimony! Please know that you are making a difference.
The next big opportunity for you to show your support for climate action is coming up this Monday, when we’ll be at the State House testifying before the Environment and Natural Resources Committee on a landmark piece of legislation called the Climate Superfund Act . This bill will require fossil fuel companies to pay for damages they’ve caused to Maine’s public infrastructure and environment through climate change—so we don’t have to.
Will you show your support today by signing the petition to Make Polluters Pay? [[link removed]]

It's time that the world's biggest polluters, who caused the problem, to pick up the tab instead of Maine taxpayers and our communities. Every year, the world’s largest emitters and fossil fuel companies make BILLIONS of dollars in profit. Meanwhile, the people of Maine are on the hook for the millions of dollars of damage they’ve caused through floods, droughts, and extreme weather fueled by climate change. In Maine, it should be the law that climate polluters pay for the damage they cause, which is exactly what this bill will do.
Thanks in advance for adding your name to our petition, which I will share as part of MCV’s testimony on Monday!
Onward,
