This World Press Freedom Day, as we release the 2025 RSF World Press Freedom Index, I would like to emphasise how much this freedom is more endangered than ever.
This day is a powerful reminder that producing and protecting free, independent and reliable information remains a daily struggle around the world.
As you know from our 2025 Index, press freedom is under particular threat this year as theIndex’s economic indicator dropped drastically.
What’s more, the global financial instability of trustworthy, independent outlets is compounded by censorship, disinformation and the deliberate targeting of journalists, from imprisonment to murder.
This is why Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is taking action around the world to sound the alarm over journalists’ working conditions. RSF will also continue to provide on-the-ground aid to journalists targeted during armed conflicts.
