The second amendment I proposed is to safeguard the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's independence. This agency is crucial for protecting consumers like you from scams, fraud, data breaches, and abuse. Weakening the CFPB would disproportionately harm people of color and marginalized communities, especially given its success in saving consumers $5 billion in overdraft fees and removing medical debt from credit reports. Trump and Republicans seek to do this for one simple, unfortunate reason: $7 trillion in tax breaks for their billionaire friends.
With prices skyrocketing, people struggling to afford homes, sending children to college, or even putting food on the table, weakening the CFPB's independence will hurt everyone. This about protecting an institution designed to protect you. As your Congresswoman, I will always fight to make sure you have the ability to thrive, no matter your ZIP code or bank account.
