Holding China Accountable
For too long, China has abused its trade agreements with the United States. We must hold China accountable. China subsidizes and gives special treatment to Chinese companies hurting U.S. manufacturing and putting U.S. manufacturing jobs at risk. Also, China has engaged in intellectual property theft and unfair trade practices. According to FBI reports, Chinese intellectual property theft, counterfeit goods, and pirated software costs the U.S. between $225 - 600 billion annually. I'm working to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for their trade abuses.
Yesterday, I joined Pamela Brown on CNN to talk about the need to address China's unfair trade practices. You can watch our discussion here.
Working Across the District
Over the last week, I spent time visiting with workers, employers, and stopping by community events across the 1st Congressional District. It is important to hear from you about what we can do to get our country back on track.
On Saturday, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Roma Lodge for the annual Racine Pancake Day. It was great to hear from many families about their priorities.
Milwaukee Judge Charged with Obstruction
This week, a Milwaukee County Judge charged with two felony counts of obstruction was relieved from her duties. According to a federal criminal complaint, Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Dugan obstructed federal agents from executing a warrant against an illegal immigrant who was appearing in court on charges of domestic violence and battery. Judge Dugan's actions follow just days after Governor Tony Evers issued a memo to state employees instructing them not to assist ICE or federal officials in enforcing immigration law.
Judge Dugan will have her day in court, but I want to be clear: the law applies equally to everyone, whether you are a defendant, a witness, or a judge. You can watch my interview above or click on the link here.
Recapping our Telephone Town Hall
On Monday, we held our monthly telephone town hall with hundreds of Wisconsin families joining our discussion.
During the call, we covered issues ranging from Social Security and the SAVE Act to DOGE and foreign affairs. It was a great conversation and I enjoyed hearing from Wisconsin families about the issues that mattered to them most. You can read more on our discussion in our paper here. If you'd like to join our next telephone town hall, sign up on this link.
As always, feel free to contact my office if you have any questions, want to share an opinion, or are having trouble with a federal agency.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
