Ohio Governor Mike DeWine hosted [ [link removed] ] U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins in Darke County to meet with farmers impacted by Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Ohio has had the most birds affected by HPAI in 2025.  HPAI cases are now trending downward in Ohio, but the virus has infected 76 premises since the end of December, leading to the depopulation of 15.5 million birds.

Governor DeWine and Secretary Rollins toured Weaver Eggs, Inc. in Versailles, which was impacted by HPAI in January. They also hosted a meeting with local poultry producers to discuss Ohio’s response to HPAI and how the virus has affected Ohio farmers.

"HPAI has been devastating for poultry farmers in western Ohio, so I appreciate that Secretary Rollins came here personally to speak with local farmers and hear what they've been going through," said Governor DeWine. "The visit was very positive and productive."

Governor and First Lady speak at podium in Toledo [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine announced in Toledo the launch of an effort to improve birth outcomes and reduce infant mortality rates.

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) Director Kara B. Wente announced [ [link removed] ] in Toledo the launch of an effort to improve birth outcomes and reduce infant mortality rates.

Through the DeWine-Tressel Administration’s newly announced Partner for Change initiative, DCY is teaming up with several organizations across the state to take a highly effective model, pioneered by Hamilton County-based nonprofit Cradle Cincinnati, and expand it into new communities throughout Ohio.

"Our children and our families are at the heart of everything we do as a state,” said Governor DeWine. “Ohio recently hit its lowest rate of infant mortality in two decades, but we know more needs to be done. Expanding this model through our Partner for Change initiative is another example of how we are continuing to seek new and innovative ways to protect our children and families."

Governor DeWine also took time during today's press conference to discuss one of the top priorities in his executive budget proposal: his tax cut for working families.

"Many young parents are working hard to make a living, but many of them are facing a lot of strain right now," said Governor DeWine. "With the creation of a family tax cut, we will be able to help these parents so they can support their kids."

The proposal would give working families a tax cut of up to $1,000 for each child under the age of seven. This would help 450,000 families in Ohio.
