Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Dear John,

I hope you had a good week. I'm writing to share three things I did to represent Chicagoland over the past week.

1. Marked 100 Days of the Second Trump Administration

Quigley speaks on Trump's first 100 days.

This week we marked 100 days into Donald Trump's second administration. You're less free, our country's less safe, and everything is more expensive.

Despite Democrats being in the minority in both chambers of Congress, we've been able to withstand the administration. From pushing back on their initial federal spending freeze to calling for the release of wrongfully detained people, we've slowed down Trump's path to authoritarianism.

But we have to keep speaking up. We must stand together, stay united, and stay engaged to make it through the next four years.

2. Reintroduced the Equality Act for LGBTQ+ Civil Rights

I was proud this week to join Congressman Mark Takano and my fellow members of the Equality Caucus to reintroduce the Equality Act in the House of the Representatives. If passed, the Equality Act would grant full equality to LGBTQ+ Americans.

I also spoke to content creators Brita Filter and Kenneth Walden about the Equality Act, and what LGBTQ+ people and allies can do right now.

3. Shared the Release of Mohsen Mahdawi

Quigley comments on the release of Mohsen Mahdawi.

We also celebrated the release of Mohsen Mahdawi, a Palestinian green card holder and longtime resident of the United States, who was kidnapped by Trump for exercising his First Amendment rights. Mohsen was freed this week after being illegally detained by DHS.
