This debate about military bases is about more than just names. It's about denouncing the original sin of our nation's past: slavery.

Let's be clear: Confederate officers were fighting to continue enslaving the ancestors of today's Black Americans. These aren't the types of people we should be celebrating.

As a country we must move towards a future that is equal and just -- and we cannot do that if the property of OUR government celebrates racist traitors who abandoned our sacred union to defend slavery.
