It’s despicable -- during Georgia’s primary this week, once again we saw long lines and wait times that stretched into the night, last-minute polling location changes, and issues with voting machines. And as usual, we know where most of these problems happened: in Black communities.
This is just the latest example of voter suppression in action. We can’t let what happened in Georgia’s primary happen everywhere in November.
The coronavirus has posed new challenges to our elections, and we need to address them now by expanding voting by mail and early voting everywhere so we can ensure everyone can safely cast their ballots this year. If you agree, please sign our petition today.
Americans all over are demanding change, and one of the most important tools we have is the ballot box. But if Black and brown voters are systematically targeted and silenced, we won’t be able to make the progress we need.
And we know President Trump will be pulling from the voter suppression playbook -- he has lied about voter fraud ever since he was elected, and he’s doing it again now to stifle attempts to expand voting by mail before November.
Tell Congress to expand voting by mail and early voting before November >>
I’ve been fighting voter suppression my whole career. That’s why as Ohio’s secretary of state, I set up registration sites at high schools and food banks and got McDonald’s to print registration forms on its tray liners. Folks could order a Big Mac and register to vote at the same time.
I did that because we should be making it easier to vote -- not harder.
We need to make it easier and safer to vote before November. Add your name to mine and demand Congress expand voting by mail and early voting.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
